FORT LOUVOIS or FORT CHAPUS


Positionnement : (45°51'34"N 1°10'15"W)

History:
Built in 1691 pennies the reign of Louis XIV, between the island of Oléron and the continent, Strong Chapus, or Strong Louvois,
protected the southern access from the port of well preserved Rochefort.
Preserved remarkably well, this building shelters a model of the basin of Marenne oyster
as well as a museum of ostreiculture.
In the enclosure of the fort, various permanent exposures are held (fortifications of the littoral, models, engines old,
paintings, craft industry).

Strong Louvois, located at Bourcefranc it Chapus is surrounded by water with high tide and is connected to the ground by a roadway submarine of 450 meters.
